My first query letter:

I’m in the process of finishing a novel and then sending out query letters to agents.  The following is a query letter I’ve come up with after some research and much editing.  I thoroughly welcome any input from other writers (particularly published ones!) as well as anyone else who’d like to give me feedback on their reaction.

Dear xxxxxx,

Nissa is a princess but doesn’t know it.  She’s from another planet and possesses amazing abilities but she doesn’t know that either.  In fact, Nissa knows nothing about who she truly is.  All that is about to change.

When the N’Vodi, a feared alien race, invade the planet Beron and enslave its inhabitants, the Royal Family send their daughter Nissa to the hidden planet Lysiria; they are certain the princess is the one whom the ancient prophets spoke of who holds the power to free their people.  On her adopted planet, Nissa lives a peaceful and happy life with her new family and her best friend El-Kana.  She has mastered the Ktulu, a flute-like instrument, so well that she enchants the others in her village every night with beautiful, almost magical music.  This blissful existence comes to an abrupt halt when the skies above her village fill with strange lights and she is suddenly hunted by the N’Vodi.  It seems that someone from the Beron High Council has betrayed their own people and revealed Nissa’s hiding place to the N’Vodi.  High Council member Romalak, former adviser to the King,  must hi-jack a N’Vodi spaceship and rescue Nissa before the N’Vodi get to her first. 

The Quest for Nissa is a fast-paced sci-fi/fantasy epic about a girl who holds the key to salvation for her people and who struggles with loss, fear and loneliness as she comes to terms with that destiny.  This is the first book in The Beron Trilogy.
